THE ENGINEER’S DAUGHTER
After 30 years in the media business creating content and a point of view for a range of brands, from international to main-street local, it’s time to have my own say, unedited and unfiltered. For now, I’m devoting myself to a search: Elegant solutions for an irrational world.
The impulse and drive of this search comes from the influence of my father, an engineer, the Engineer. His experience, outlook, and approach to the world shaped me like no one and no thing else. This blog is an exploration of his influence on me and the outcome—a way of looking at the world that causes me to seek and identify these elegant solutions. I hope it will be useful and inspiring to you, Dear Reader.
“Beauty is the harmony of purpose and form.”—Alvar Aalto, 1928, discovered in a slim notebook published by Artek, the manufacturing company Aalto founded in 1935 with his wife, Aino Marsio Aalto, and Marie Gullichsen.
“All that I hope to say … is that I love the world.”—E.B. White
“If we thought we were building up a heaven on earth, if we looked for something that would turn the present world from a place of pilgrimage into a permanent city satisfying the soul of man, we are disillusioned, and not a moment too soon.”—C.S. Lewis
